When to Use Yes/No Questions

  • Asking for confirmation: Do you speak English? Yes, I do.
  • Checking information: Is this your bag? No, it isn't.
  • Making requests: Can you help me? Could I borrow this?
  • Offering: Would you like some tea?
  • All tenses: Did you go? Have you been? Will you come?

How to Form Yes/No Questions

Affirmative (+)

Auxiliary + subject + main verb? (Do you like...?)

Negative (-)

Auxiliary + n't + subject + verb? (Don't you like...?)

Question (?)

Invert subject and auxiliary

💡 With 'be' as main verb, just invert: She is here → Is she here?
