When to Use Adverbs of Manner

  • Describing how an action is done: She speaks quietly. He drives carefully.
  • Most adverbs formed by adding -ly to adjective: quick → quickly, careful → carefully.
  • Irregular adverbs: good → well, fast → fast, hard → hard.
  • Position: usually after the verb or object.
  • Some adjectives ending in -ly are not adverbs: friendly, lovely, lonely.
