When to Use Adverbs of Frequency

  • Describing how often something happens.
  • Scale: always (100%) → usually → often → sometimes → rarely/seldom → never (0%).
  • Position: before main verb, after 'be'.
  • With auxiliary verbs: between auxiliary and main verb.
  • Some can start sentences for emphasis: Sometimes I walk to work.

How to Form Adverbs of Frequency

Affirmative (+)

Subject + frequency adverb + verb; Subject + be + frequency adverb

Negative (-)

Subject + don't/doesn't + frequency adverb + verb

Question (?)

How often do you...? Do you ever...?

💡 Never, rarely, seldom are already negative; don't use with 'not'.
